Some simple tips on what to get for your daughter who is just starting softball for the first time ever!!!
- Simple gear that is needed
Obviously, for first starters your going to need to get a helmet, bat and a softball bag/backpack. Personally, with someone who had many years of experience and has probably gone through at least 20 softball bags through my career, I’ve found that softball backpacks are way easier to carry and now the in thing. With someone who is just starting at the age of 4 or 5, a backpack would obviously be better on their backs and would be easier to carry.
2. There are two types of bats, an aluminum bat, and a composite bat.
Obviously, when you’re just starting up as a young girl you don’t need the top-notch bat! Aluminum bats are typically used through the ages 5-10 and then if you wanted to start competitive softball this is when you would typically look into buying a composite bat. The difference between these bats is quite significant. An aluminum bat makes a tin noise when the ball makes contact with the bat. The composite bat is very quiet and is AMAZING! Once you buy a composite bat you will NEVER go back. Also, composite bats are made so that when the ball and bat make contact that your hands aren’t ringing.
3. Clothing options
Honestly, it all depends on the type of person. To start off, you’ll need sliders. For those who don’t know what those are, they go under your softball pants. They protect you from getting burns and honestly just extra cushion for when your diving or sliding. Next, you’ll need pants!! Much better than when I was playing because we played in shorts! Multiple pairs of softball socks are a must! Its good to have a lot because they rip and get holes in them easily. You can’t forget about cleats! Depending on what level you’re in, there are two different types of cleats but so many different brands. The first is metal cleats and the other type of cleats are just the traditional rubber cleats. You cant wear the metal cleats until your in high school for safety reasons.
